week 5 wrap-up!

Good morning RSL Family! Week 5 Wrap-Up on a beautiful albeit a bit smoky morning. There aren’t any fires near us fortunately. Sounds like the US is getting smoke from Quebec now.

We had another great week up here in God’s country. Our dad spent his second week in a row up here and our brother came up with the Schweiger group to fish and make memories. Lots of nice walleyes caught, and lots of fly fishing for Smallmouth Bass this week!

The Original Rich Award was not awarded this week. A couple broken rods this week, but nothing out of the ordinary happened. Not a bad thing.

Walleye bite was hot on the humps including Potluck for those of you who know where it is. Sunken Island was also on fire as were Humps 1 and a few others. MacKenzie, and Trevor from P1 hooked the same fish at the same time. That’s a hungry Walleye!

Leeches and Minnows are working, and unfortunately for our leech lovers the difficulty with getting leeches this year is real. I know we have a few guests who have preordered leeches, and we are attempting to get more leeches. Our normal supplier is done for the season already. I’ll keep everyone up to date as we hear more.

Randall from Cabin 6 hooked up with a small walleye and a Pike hit the walleye knocking it off the bait when the Walleye took off the Pike saw Randall’s bait and hit it. Randall reeled in the Pike. I’ve heard of pike hitting fish caught but never this scenario.

My brother David, and his buddies from Virginia Bill, and Ben spent a lot of time chasing bass with their Fly-Fishing equipment. Lots of bass were caught, and the guys had a ton of fun out fly fishing for them!

Week 5 Monster/Micro Fish tournament results: Sunday’s tournament turned into quite a few Micro entries. First time this year it seemed people were hunting for the Micro Prize. Without further ado P2 had a tie for the Micro Prize. Barry and Bill caught 7.25-Inch Small mouth Bass to grab their lures. Colleen from C-2 caught a 27-Inch Northern Pike to win her hat.

Our youngest member of the 30-Inch club won the Walleye prize this week! Trevor from P1 caught and released a 27.25-Inch Walleye! Great tourney as usual and the BBQ was superb. Thanks to everyone for bringing down some tremendous food!

I’ve been thinking about adding a section of the blog for recipes that are shared during the BBQ/potluck. Here is the first entry:

Wj's corn pudding (1 batch serves 5)

Combine:

1 12 oz can of whole corn (fresh or frozen)

2 17 oz can of cream corn

5 lightly beaten eggs

1/2 cup sugar

Combine:

4 tbsp corn starch, 1-1/2 tsp all season salt (use to your taste

1/2 tsp dry mustard,1 tsp garlic powder 2 tsp instant minced onion (or you can use onion power), 1/2 cup milk

Blend all these dry items with the cold milk and then blend into the

Corn, eggs, and sugar

1/2 cup of melted butter (add after all cold & dry items are blended.

Pour into a greased 3 quart casserole dish, bake at 400 degree oven for 1 to 1-1/2 hours (ovens vary, stir mixture, once or twice during cook time, cook until golden brown)

If you double batch you may have to cook longer in 15 minute intervals until golden brown...usually best when you cook the night before...enjoy

Staci, Margaret, and a few others owe me their recipes from Week 4. Please and thank you.

We finished up a screened in area attached to the Beach house for grilling, and doing fish frys. Looking for a name so if you think of a catchy one let us know. Larry started us off with The Fry Shack. Thanks Ricky with Castle Builders for the supplies to make it happen!

A little stain and clean up and we'll be open for guests!

I know the blog is a little late this week as I am trying to get it out by Tuesday! Stay safe everyone and tight lines!
