Writing the blog from the house overlooking smoked filled skies. We have a fire south of us near April road which some of you may be familiar with. Approximately 30 kilometers as I used my finger ruler. It was detected yesterday, and crews are working to put it out. Rain is in the forecast for later today into tonight so hopefully the region will get some badly needed moisture. Lake levels are still very nice too high but the lake is starting to come down without rain. Enough of that.
Walleyes were caught in the usual spots for early season and with the nice weather this past week and light winds shore lunches were had in abundance. Fire ban in effect so propane is the way to go. You can still use your bbq grills as well.
Congratulations to Bob from Cabin 7 on his 1st 30-inch Walleye! He was able to get a few photos and quickly released her back to the lake to continue growing and producing trophy off spring. Great to get the first one this early in the season and now we can add to the list!
We had a pier friend the other day. A very nice healthy looking musky under the bridge dock. We were looking for treasure with our magnet and up came a 40-ish inch musky. He hung around the dock for hours coming in and out of the dock letting me and a couple guests get a glimpse. Not sure if he's still around but who knows?
Week 2 MFT results: An absolutely beautiful day for a tournament. Blue bell skies and the competition was keen. Bob Wade our newest 30-Inch Walleye club member builds custom rods as his hobby, and after last year’s trip he decided to provide a couple prizes this year. A new custom rod for the Micro fish prize and one for the Walleye prize. Lucky considering he caught a gorgeous 29.5-inch Northern Pike to claim the pike prize. Chuck from Cabin 3 caught and released a 29.5-Inch walleye. The way the mouth is pushed up against the bump board I wonder if maybe just maybe if he remeasured that fish and pinched the tail all the way that we might have had another 30 onboard this week, but I digress, and Chuck was happy he was able to catch and release such a nice walleye! We had a tie for the Micro prize with two 10.5-inch Walleyes being recorded. Nick and Wade from Cabin 2. Nick told me to give Wade the prize so Wade got the rod, and I gave Nick a 5 of Diamonds spoon. Once again thanks Bob for building two custom rods for this weeks winners.
Week 3 is shaping up to be another great week of trophy catching and releasing.
As always, the camaraderie among anglers was what made the week truly special. Stories of near misses, the ones that got away, and sharing nature’s beauty.
We Look ahead to upcoming days promising more excitement as seasoned anglers and first-time visitors alike continue their quest for trophies. Thanks for spending your valuable vacation time with us up here in God’s Country! Tight lines to all!
Remember to send photos!
