Good afternoon rocky shore lodge week 8 blog. As I look out the window and type this last week was probably the nicest week of weather we’ve had all season. Other than a 1 hour stretch of rain resulting in almost an inch the sun shone, and the clouds were not present most of the week.
If you have not seen Steve’s Video Blog (VLOG) we are having no luck in procuring leeches this summer. Our number one supplier is done for the season, and we haven’t been able to find anyone else that supplies leeches. In other words, my biggest recommendation would be to try and get your leeches on the way up to camp. Call bait shops ahead of time and see if they will set some aside for you. I have a few pounds left but they will not last long and I doubt we will be able to purchase any more. We are very sorry for this inconvenience. Our proverbial hands are tied. On a positive note, fish were being caught this week on minnows, leeches, and crawlers so there are options.
The original Rich Award stayed home once again this week and that might not be a bad thing.
Carma from Penthouse 2 was deemed the Goby master from Karen’s cousins as she was not very successful in landing any fish until the last day. She had 2 Gobies to her name. I smell something fishy and it was probably her husband derailing her chances to catch fish, but with no proof all I can assume is she has an aptly named title! Congratulations Carma?
We had a young lad by the name of Jay who was schooling Harvey and I on the finer points of river fishing in Missouri and the lures he was going to be using to land his walleye up here. I have to thank Larry for bringing Jay up as we enjoyed his company immensely!
Walleyes were caught in 4 feet of water all the way to 30 feet. A very intriguing week for walleye fishing as they were literally everywhere! As I mentioned the previous week the fish were around 19 foot, but this week scattered. Not sure the reasoning but anyone who wants to venture a guess I’d be interested in hearing it. Week 9 will be more normal, but that’s for next week.
Shannon and Zane were targeting Smallmouth Bass and cleaned house on them pretty much all week. They got their walleyes for eating but keyed on Bass! Their friends Larry, Jay, and Jason were multi species fishing and had some good results with Smallmouth as well as other fish and for their first trip to RSL I’d say not bad. Especially considering the fish this week were all over the lake in unusual spots!
Lots of Perch this week were brought in because of the beautiful weather. People just wanted to be on the water with the low wind and sunny skies and I can’t blame them.
Week 8 MFT results:
Really happy to announce youngster Jay Rizzo landed a 26-Inch Northern Pike to grab the Northern prize. He was quite excited!
John from P2 hauled in a monster 5.5-Inch Small mouth Bass to capture the RSL Plaque!
Mike from C-2 landed a very nice 26.5-Inch Walleye to claim the Walleye prize!
Don’t forget to send pictures!
Tight Lines everyone!
