Week 13 thru end of season Wrap-up!

Good afternoon Rocky Shore Lodge week 13 thru the end of season blog.  I know it’s been a long time coming.  Its been super busy up here with full camp and bear stuff going on so unfortunately the thing that went awry was the blog.  I also understand a lot of people like to read the weekly blog so with that lets get to it.

I sit here after some of the most beautiful weather back to back to back typing and watching it rain outside.  Lots of projects completed and I think the camp is shaping up nicely.  The afternoon fishing has been exceptional for species not beginning with a W.  Not to say some anglers landed onto an active school of Walleyes, but the bite was mostly morning, and evening for the walleyes.  I have to say other than a couple hot days the weather has been blue bird skies, and very little wind.  Reminded me a lot of San Diego when I was there in the Navy.  75 degrees and little humidity without a cloud in the sky.  Guests would comment how beautiful it was and I have to agree.  Back at home as we put the lodge to bed.

The Original Rich Award was silent again and that’s not a bad thing.  Although Dan from Cabin 4 was just finishing school with Aidrick (not sure the spelling) informing him never to leave his rod unattended because a big northern or Musky or Walleye for that matter might run off with bait and pole.  Nothing better for learning in my eyes than actually seeing or getting hands on learning as Dan put his pole down for a second and whoosh there it went.  I’m sure I cannot repeat what was said on that boat that day, but I’m sure it wasn’t G rated.

Walleyes have been working their way towards late summer and fall spots.  The sandbar has been spotty with some days of catching, some days catching 9-to-12-inch walleyes, and other days the bite was just off.  The funny thing to me was one of the guys that brought up a LiveScope would watch the fish under the boat move from under the boat 10 to 20 feet away.  Those fish were finicky and if you threw a slip bobber with a crawler towards them you were rewarded quite a bit.  This is normal during the summertime but definitely not normal now.  So if you are coming up make sure you have a slip bobber rig set up.  The humps are still holding lots of fish.  You just need to find them on the humps and start flipping your slip bobber around the boat til you find them.  If 15 minutes of flipping doesn’t work leave that school and go find another one that might be active.  It’s worked for quite a few folks that normally jig this time of year.  Gotta change with what they want.  This year the 9 to 12 inch class of walleye has been nothing short of spectacular.  I’ve never heard so many people come in and tell me the amount of aggressive smaller size walleye being caught.  This is going to be an excellent problem next season when you  are out looking for the perfect shore lunch fish.  We must have had one heck of a spawn back when everything was flooded.  Those fish must have been able to stay up in the shallows which normally would have been land and survived better than most years hatches.

Our Bear hunters made it up in mid August and all saw the fluffy ones out in the bush.  We had one harvested and two other shots taken, but to no avail.

Our Moose hunters came up and harvested an absolutely perfect moose!  Congratulations!

What a season we have had!  With the help of everyone we got lots of work done this season and especially this fall.  The work that took place also took precedence which is why the end of week blog didn’t materialize that last part of the season.  For that I apologize to everyone for not keeping everyone in the loop.  See you at the Sport Shows and next season!  Tight Lines everyone!
